Stonecrest RV Park - Angleton, Texas
We made a stopover in Angleton to visit with friends. We were able to enjoy a couple of evenings with them. We went to their favorite Mexican restaurant, which is always a favorite of ours. The next night, they fired up the grill in true Texas style, and we had dinner with the whole entire family. It was so cool to meet their kids and grandkids after watching videos and pictures of them growing up over the last 9 years.
During the day, we were on our own to explore the area. There was not much to do locally, but we did come across the Stephen F. Austin Statue. The actual museum was not open on the day we visited. We were not familiar with him, so it ended up being a learning opportunity. We figured if Texas thought enough of him to build this ginormous statue, then we needed to at least read about him. Thank goodness for google.
Stephen F. Austin never married. His devotion to the Texas Colony has led many to say that Austin felt as though Texas had become his wife and the colonists as his children, earning him the title "Father of Texas".
A replica cannon and cart that was used to move it around the battle field were outside the closed museum in the park. We ended up taking a short walk around the park, but the weather wasn't very conducive for an afternoon stroll. We decided the best way to spend this rainy day was to go back to the RV and take a nap. Some times it works out very well to have a day at home to piddle, catch up with chores and nap. Since the RV is our home and this is not just an extended vacation, we cannot be gone all day, every day. We still have chores and need to run errands just like we did when we lived in our house, we just have fewer of them.
